The audacity of Terror

Thursday, November 27th, 2008

26th November 2008, will go down in Mumbai’s history as a black day. It was the day that terror struck Mumbai again. Late yesterday night, reports started emerging that there were shots fired in South Mumbai. In a little while news trickled in that this was a terrorist attack of the likes that India had never seen before. (more…)

Potholing

Wednesday, August 6th, 2008

Had a weird experience yesterday. The auto rickshaw that I took to get back home yesterday drove itself into a pothole and got stuck. It finally came free, but not before I got partly drenched pushing the vehicle out of the hole in the pouring rain. Getting stuck in a pothole – possibly the last thing I expected….just goes to show Mumbai is full of surprises.

Rains in Mumbai

Monday, July 2nd, 2007

It’s been raining or rather pouring in Mumbai these last couple of days. It’s kinda like the infamous day (some 2 years ago) when Mumbai got about 980mm of rainfall in a matter of hours. This time round it wasn’t that bad, just about 440 mm of rainfall, but the flooding and panic was widespread. Even the area around where I live (being on small hillock, flooding hasn’t really mattered in the past) had parts of it under waist deep water.

This little problem of flooding I guess will continue to be there as long as people keep building haphazardly in Mumbai, with no consideration for open spaces, drainage etc. In-spite of having one of the worst open spaces to people ratio in India, it’s FSI that matters !

I guess only time will tell if the rain gods and convince us mere mortals to change our errant ways.
