Iron Man

Sunday, May 4th, 2008

Watched Iron Man yesterday at Hub. The movie is Marvel’s latest superhero offering for the silver screen. It begins with debonair playboy Tony Stark enjoying an escorted ride in the deserts of Afghanistan. His military convoy is attacked by terrorists who are using his own weapons. Captured and fatally injured, he is told by the terrorists to build the Jericho missile, Stark’s latest invention in the art of war. Stark first builds a device to keep the shrapnel from tearing his heart and then goes on to build an iron exoskeleton with the aid of which he escapes the terrorist hideout. (more…)

Saturday, April 26th, 2008

I watched Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi finally. The movie has been lying around with me for almost 2 years now, somehow haven’t just got around to watching it. When I finally did see it yesterday, I realized that I should have seen this gem of a movie much earlier.

China’s Little “Emperors”

Sunday, March 23rd, 2008

Was randomly channel surfing today when I came across some kind of documentary (Please Vote for me) on BBC World. The documentary was part of BBC World’s Inside China week. It followed the lives of some kids against the ordinary backdrop of school life in China. From the part where I tuned in, it seemed like an election for the representative of the class was taking place. The entire event had all the makings of an election feature. At one end we had the incumbent monitor (A), a small little dictator who had been known to use his fists to maintain order. His challengers included (what I gathered was) his former friend turned rival (B) and the customary female lead (F).

The Dentmobiles are coming to a town near you !!

Saturday, March 15th, 2008

Dentmobile RoadshowThe “I believe in Harvey Dent” campaign just kicked off a series of roadshows involving “Dentmobiles”. On March 13, an email was sent to registered users informing them of the roadshows. The roadshow was billed as a “rally for the one man who can save Gotham”.This was also coupled with some “user generated” grassroots support for Dent in the form of videos, photos etc on the website. Pictures posted include photos of supporters outside malls, sand sculptures supporting Dent, coffee mugs among others.

The next leg of roadshows starts off on the 20th of March in the following cities: Boulder, Atlanta, East Lansing, St. Louis and Seattle. Be there and be part of the campaign.

Update on the Dark Knight Viral

Sunday, March 2nd, 2008

Harvey DentA new site called I believe in Harvey Dent is up. The viral campaign seems to be shifting from The Joker, back onto Harvey Dent and Gotham City. I don’t know if this is a result of Heath Ledger’s tragic demise or part of the original viral campaign. Though full marks to Warner Bros. for keeping the viral on. Lets hope that after all this hype the movie does not disappoint!

Back to the campaign now. The campaign features a campaign poster for Dent and an email / phone sign up. I couldn’t enter my phone number though, as I guess it accepts US phone numbers only.

Dark Knight Trailer

Wednesday, February 20th, 2008

Just saw the trailer for The Dark Knight. The trailer looks quite promising, with the Joker doing most of the voice over. The Joker has a wicked, twisted new look and this just might be one of the biggest summer blockbusters. It’s also what is possibly Heath Ledger’s last performance, and going by the trailer it’s gonna be awesome. Counting down to July , when it hits theaters !

King Of California

Saturday, February 2nd, 2008

King of CaliforniaI have been wanting to watch King of California for some time now. Finally got a chance yesterday. The movie is a delightful treat, and looks at madness, relationships, treasure hunting in a whole new light. It’s one of Michael Douglas’s more unusual roles and he sports a really weird look for the movie. Of course, as usual he turns in a splendid performance while the rest of the cast is equally good.

Here is the summary from IMDB:

KING OF CALIFORNIA stars Michael Douglas as a fresh-out-of-the-mental institution father, and Evan Rachel Wood as his emancipated teenage daughter, as they venture together on a quest for an ancient Spanish treasure buried beneath their local Costco in this in this darkly funny, exciting and surprisingly hopeful take on the modern family and the American dream.

What I loved about the movie is the way the movie showed the various facets of life and the wonderful twist in the end of the movie. Another thing I liked is the way the story progressed alternating between the California of the Spanish diary describing the route to the treasure and the modern day California.

The movie is a great watch and if you get the chance do see it.

The Dark Knight goes Viral

Thursday, January 31st, 2008

Why So Serious ?The Dark Knight, the upcoming sequel to Batman Begins has begun with an very interesting viral campaign. The campaign started off with websites for The Gotham Times, The Gotham Rail and the The Gotham Police Department. Then to add to the fun, The Joker joined the act with The Ha Ha Ha Times. But that was just the tip of the campaign, they upped the ante after that. Things just got a bit weird and chilling as the campaign blurred the line between reality and the reel world. If you want to know how, keep reading.
