Its been a while since I have seen a good horror flick. The Ruins is all that and more. The description from IMDB reads:
A group of friends whose leisurely Mexican holiday takes a turn for the worse when they, along with a fellow tourist embark on a remote archaeological dig in the jungle, where something evil lives among the ruins.
The movie spends the first 20 odd minutes setting the backdrop for the characters. Once the lead characters get to the ruins though its one eerie ride.
The visuals are striking, especially the vine covered pyramid. The movie is essentially story driven with seemingly less use of overt CGI (something that is the rarity in Hollywood these days). And that’s why the movie succeeds so well, largely driven by some decent acting and a gem of a plot. Do watch this movie of some genuine thrills and chills.
PS: The movie is based on a book by the same name by Scott Smith, who previously wrote the superb “A simple plan”.
