The X Files: I want to believe

Watched the latest X-Files movie today. The movie comes after almost 6 years since the last episode aired. The plot follows mysterious abductions of women, one of whom is an FBI agent. The FBI is using the services of a psychic who claims to have a connection to the women. In order to assess whether the psychic is genuine, the FBI decides to bring in ex-agent Fox Mulder. Six years after the incidents of the series finale, Mulder is currently in hiding and lives with Scully, who is now a practicing physician. Mulder and Scully uncover clues that lead them closer to the abducted women, while mounting evidence seems to indicate that the women are running out of time.

I was hoping that the movie would recapture some of the magic of series, however I was sorely disappointed. The movie had none of the eeriness and paranoia that characterized the original series. Somehow, something was missing at the core of the movie. Besides Mark Snow’s background score was mediocre (though loved his new rendition of X-Files theme that plays during the credits), which just added to what was wrong in the film. (Gillian Anderson looks gorgeous as ever, though :-) )

As movie as such it has a good plot, is watchable but is a tad too long. As a X-Files movie though, it falls flat on its face. However, if you are a X-Files fan do watch it for old times sake. If you have never watched the X-Files, this might serve as a good introduction to the series. (However you will be more entertained watching the episode “Ice” from the series).
