I watched Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi finally. The movie has been lying around with me for almost 2 years now, somehow haven’t just got around to watching it. When I finally did see it yesterday, I realized that I should have seen this gem of a movie much earlier.
The movie follows the lives of three people Siddharth, Geeta and Vikram. Siddharth is an idealistic man, hoping to ignite the fire of revolution in the villages of Bihar through the Naxal movement. Geeta is hopelessly in love with him, however she is not so sure whether she can follow his ideals. Vikram on the other hand pines for Geeta, while at the same time wanting to move up from his middle class status to riches and fame, by any means possible. The movie begins from here and follows their lives and their little love triangle, while in the background India changes from the idealistic times of the Nehru era to the dark ages of the emergency.
The movie is quite fascinating with it’s portrayal of India in the late 60′s and early 70′s and is backed by some really first rate acting. Shiney Ahuja as Vikram steals the show, while Chitrangada Singh is enchantingly beautiful as Geeta. Kay Kay Menon too delivers as Siddharth. Interestingly there is one minor character called Pablo, who is a photographer in the movie. I wonder if it’s the same Pablo, who’s exhibition I went to recently.
This is a first rate movie, a must watch, one of the better movies to have come out in recent times. Do see it.

HKA is one of my all time favourites. i’m sure you must have caught the irony that was this movie’s climax. at the beginning, it was siddharth who was the idealist, willing to sacrifice all comforts for a cause. Geeta, on the other hand, was not so sure of herself, choosing to marry the safe guy at first. but the movie ends with the events completely changing the characters – strengthening Geeta, who resolves to stay with the naxals, and disillusioning siddharth – who finds solace in the mysteries of the human body in a medical school in london. also, vikram finds peace of mind, too, and how.

Yeah, the irony of it all is quite striking. Kind of always liked those ironical movies
