Manorama Six Feet UnderJust watched Manorama Six Feet Under at Movietime, Goregoan. I generally don’t watch Bollywood hindi movies, since most of them of them have the most inane plots, however once in awhile the industry does produce absolute masterpieces. Manorama is one of them.

Based in small town Rajasthan, the movie follows a engineer Satyaveer or SV who is also a part time novelist. His only novel titled “Manorama” has been an absolute failure selling only 200 copies. To add to his misery he has been suspended for accepting a motorcycle as a bribe. The thing is everyone takes a bribe in this town, only SV our hero is unfortunate enough to be caught doing it. But fortune favors him as one dark night a woman claiming to be the wife of a minister visits him asking him to spy on her husband, just like his hero did in his novel.

SV, the amateur detective soon finds out that all is not what it seems to be. The woman was not the politicians wife and to make matters worse – turns up dead in an accident…or is it murder ?

What follows is a roller coaster ride with twists and turns at almost every second. This is one well-executed thriller.

The movie is an homage to noir films and is heavily inspired from Polanski’s 1974 classic “Chinatown”. In fact in one of the scenes in the movie we even see SV watching “Chinatown” on TV.While Abhay Deol and the other actors do an excellent job in the film, the one actor to watch out for is Vinay Pathak. After his superb performance in “Behja Fry“, he is brilliant as the malpua eating police inspector.

If you get a chance, do go and see this movie, you will be in for an treat.
